The Gender Roles Awareness in Life (A Father's Hand Has Touched!) project, supported by BAP, continues. It is supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Nevra Üçler of IGU
Project summary:
Gender equality, recognized by the United Nations (UN) as a fundamental human right, is the fifth goal of the "Millennium Development Goals." Gender equality can be achieved through equal representation of women and men in all areas of life. In the current century, gender discrimination is still prevalent in many parts of the world, as evidenced by contemporary sources. One of the most significant negative impacts of this concept is the differentiation of gender-based task divisions within various settings such as the home, school, and workplace, where tasks that should be shared are often seen as solely the responsibility of women. In this context, the goal is to raise awareness among individuals who lack sufficient knowledge on gender-based discrimination. The project aims to draw attention to inequality by presenting a different perspective on the well-established proverb "the mother's hand has touched," replacing it with the slogan "a father's hand has touched." The study population for the research consists of young adults aged 18 and above who are currently enrolled in university. The sample of the research will consist of volunteer students from Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Applied Sciences (UBF).The research will be conducted using an online survey, which will be distributed to student groups through their representatives. The survey will be administered following ethical approval, and reliability will be assessed using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient, while validity will be measured using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) statistic. Both reliability and validity criteria will be met. The data obtained from the research will be analyzed using the "SPSS for Windows 25.0" statistical software. The findings of the research are expected to highlight the importance of achieving gender equality. Based on the results of the survey, it is planned to publish a report supported by IGU publications.
