The program, which was held under the supervision of Research Center Director Associate Professor Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp, was held on 01 March 2018 with the intense participation of students. At the beginning of the program, Yeşim Salihoğlu Şener introduced herself and then gave brief information about her work and life experiences.
Coming together with Gelisim University students, Şener introduced the concept and channels of social media in her presentation “Advantages of Social Media for Women in terms of Entrepreneurship”. She explained the advantages of each channel for women by giving examples from her own career. Şener said, “Especially Instagram has provided women with a great advantage in terms of entrepreneurship, thus creating new job opportunities for women. Women can do business more easily by uploading photos or videos of anything they produce at home. They also have more say in the sale of fashion, make-up, food and beverage, or organic products. This leads to women's economic empowerment.”
Underlining the importance of Linkedin, Şener emphasized that this site provides great advantages to women in terms of professionalism and said, “Women who are members of this site can introduce themselves much better and explain their characteristics. This site makes it very easy for women to find contacts for work.
Explaining that she received training to learn how to manage social media, Şener noted that this field is not easy at all. Stating that it is necessary to receive training and follow regular innovations, Şener said that thanks to her social media training, she now manages her public relations campaigns from this field. In addition, he said that he is now managing the social media of many of his clients.
Explaining to the new students what difficulties they will face in finding a job, Şener said that it is very difficult to be a woman in business life as it is almost everywhere else: “It is important to know English in order to perceive the world better, even English is not enough, a second language should also be learned. Since the world we live in is changing rapidly, students need to develop themselves for life in order to adapt to this change.
At the end of the event, Yeşim Salihoğlu Şener, who answered the questions of the students, was presented a plaque of appreciation on behalf of Istanbul Gelisim University.
