Diler Ezgi TARHAN participated as an invited speaker in the panel titled ‘There is One Who Hears Your Voice!’ organised by the Dean's Office of Beykent University Faculty of Communication on 14.01.25 between 13.00-15.00. TARHAN, who talked about combating violence against women together with the guests from Mor Çatı Women's Shelter Foundation and We Will Stop Femicide Platform, drew attention to what preventive measures can be taken within universities to combat violence and introduced the activities of TCCUAM as Assistant Director of IGU Gender Studies Application and Research Centre. Emphasising that such a unit or at least an emergency crisis desk should be established at Beykent University, our lecturer also stated that we are open to possible collaborations. Gender Studies Application And Research Center, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and the Sociology Club, organized a screening and critical discussion of the film Persepolis. The film was analyzed within the frameworks of gender, migration, identity, and intersectionality. During the subsequent evaluation session, moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazar Bal and Assist. Prof. Dr. Selda Tunç Subaşi, students engaged in a structured discussion, applying theoretical concepts to interpret the film and relate its narratives to broader social processes. The event provided a platform for developing students’ critical thinking skills and promoting active participation in interdisciplinary academic discourse.
The seminar, organized by Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences Social Work Department, the Social Responsibility Application and Research Center, and the Gender Studies Application and Research Center, addressed the relationship between urban life, disasters, and gender from a social work perspective. During the event, Dr. Emrah Tüncer, Dr. Ayşe Aydın, and Gender Studies Center Director Dr. Selda Tunç Subaşı delivered presentations. Subaşı discussed the invisible daily burdens faced by women in urban settings through a feminist geography approach. The program also included the presentation of student projects conducted within the scope of the 2209-A initiative. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session and a general evaluation.
With the contributions of our internal stakeholders, the Departments of Radio, Television and Cinema and Advertising at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, the Panel on Legal, Psychological, and Communication Perspectives in Combating Violence Against Women was held on November 18, 2025. The panel was moderated by Dr. Lecturer Selda Tunç Subaşı, Director of TCCUAM, and Dr. Lecturer Seyra Kestel, Deputy Director of TCCUAM.
Istanbul Gelisim University Gender Studies Application and Research Center convened on October 14, 2025, to mark the beginning of the new academic term. The Pioneering Women of the Republic: A Chapter on Kâmran Birand The book The Pioneering Women of the Republic: Those Who Wrote History, Those Who Transcended Boundaries examines the lives and intellectual worlds of women who left their mark in the fields of art, literature, philosophy, history, and culture. The book also includes a chapter titled “On Kâmran Birand's Philosophical Works” written by Dr. Diler Ezgi Tarhan, Assistant Director of TCCUAM. The study examines the academic legacy of Kâmran Birand, Turkey's first female philosophy professor, and her contributions to the intellectual development of the Republic. Dr. Tarhan highlights Birand's pioneering role in the discipline of philosophy, the path she paved for female academics, and the intellectual mission she undertook during the early Republican era. This chapter, which sheds light on previous generations, draws attention to the cultural and academic heritage of the Republic.
The Women and Family Services Department of Avcılar Municipality, along with Evrim Akdağ, the coordinator of the Women's Counseling Center, and her team, visited the Gender Studies Application and Research Center at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU). During the visit, the team provided information about their projects focused on women, children, and families, as well as their activities on various themes such as addiction, digital rights, and understanding Generation Z.
